This painting is unique and original and was painted entirely by me. The hull forms were compiled from black and white sketches by Wm. Van de Velde, and the sail form, rigging and background details were composed by me.

The Old James of 1634 was built by Peter Pett 2nd of Deptford as the James, a 70 gun 2nd Rater. She was renamed the Old James in 1660. She was converted to a 3rd Rate in 1677 and sold off in 1682.
