This painting is unique and original and was painted entirely by me. The hull form was compiled from a black and white sketch by Wm. Van de Velde, and the sail form, rigging and background detail were composed by me.
The Lennox of 1678
The Lennox was built by John Shish at Deptford in 1681 as a 3rd Rate 70 gun ship. She was present at the Battle of Beachy Head (June 1690) and the Battle of Barfleur (May 1692). She was rebuilt in 1701 and finally sunk as a breakwater in 1756.
