Rudge's engine unit with radially disposed valves

1939 Rudge Ulster 500cc. Manufactured by Rudge-Whitworth, it originally had a bronze 4 valve pent roof cylinder head, but this was replaced in 1932 with a radial valve ‘head. This in turn was replaced by a cast aluminium ‘head in 1939. The Second World War saw the end of Rudge motorcycle production.  The model produced a creditable 45bhp at 5300rpm.
