Queen Elizabeth class battleships HMS Renown followed by HMS Malaya in 1945.
HMS Renown was laid down in 1915 and completed in September 1915. She served with the 1st Battlecruiser Squadron during the Great War, without major incidents. Rebuilt in 1925 and then rejoined her squadron. Re-commissioned in 1939 she joined Force K in the search for the Graf Spee in the South Atlantic and then joined Force H at the Cape of Good Hope. In April 1940 she engaged the German surface raiders Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, hitting the latter with a 15 inch shell. She continued with Force H in the Mediteranean covering supply convoys to Malta and in 1942 convoys to and from the Soviet Union. In 1943 she transferred to the Eastern Fleet as Flag of the 1st Battle Squadron. She participated in Operation Cockpit off the island of Sumatra and bombarded Japanese installations on the Nicobar islands and Port Blair in the Sumatra islands. At the conclusion of WW2 the Renown was broken up at Faslane dockyard
