British town class cruiser HMS Belfast in 1945. (Image awaiting rephotographing)

HMS Belfast is a Town Class cruiser launched in 1948. She began WW2 as part of the blockade of Germany but hit a mine in November 1939 and was out of action for 2 years undergoing repairs. In 1943 she was part of convoy escorts from UK to the Soviet Union, and in December 1943 she saw action against the German surface raider Scharnhorst. She is believed to have fire the Star shell that illuminated the enemy, allowing the Renown to score direct hits. She also provided cover fire for the landings in Operation Overlord before being transferred to the Fast Cruiser Squadron in the Far East. She also saw action in the Korean War in 1952. She is now preserved in London as a tourish attraction.
